We take time to remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty while serving the citizens of Newport News. May we learn from their loss to preventing future loss of life, to honor the sacriface they made, to pay homage to the pain their families suffered, and to remind us that we serve in a profession where any day may be our last.

Edward ‘Eddie’ Eddings December 26, 1906 Account of the fire from the Daily Press: DAMAGE WILL AMOUNT TO NEARLY $200,000 Disastrous Fire at Shipyard Christmas Day: Loss Partially Covered by Insurance.
Chief John B. Gordon August 11, 1931 Chief Gordon was killed in the line of duty while fighting a fire at a local radio station. He was the second chief of our department when it was staffed with only 13 paid firefighters. Chief Gordon believed strongly in teaching fire prevention to children. Please join us in keeping his memory alive & his sacrifice not forgotten.
